Kust van Camarinas.

Woensdagochtend is het slecht weer. Het regent, het is grijs en het waait nog steeds erg hard. Op de één of andere manier komt er nog steeds water langs de mast de kajuit in. Raoul heeft het al meerdere keren afgekit en afgeplakt maar nog steeds is het niet dicht. De Nederlandse boten die vannacht buiten de haven gelegen hebben komen druppelsgewijs de haven binnen varen. De meesten hebben vannacht geen ook dicht gedaan en Jorg van de Barnstormer heeft ´s nachts 60 knopen gemeten over het dek. Ik ben nog steeds blij dat we gisteren gelijk de haven zijn binnengevaren. ´s Ochtends hebben de jongens school en ´s middags maken we een mooie wandeling langs de kust van Camariñas. Het is een ruige kust met veel rotsen en kleine zandstrandjes. Buiten zien we de kopjes op de golven staan en we horen hoe de golven op de rotsen beuken. Wat een geweld allemaal!

De volgende dag staat om 10.00 uur de taxi voor ons klaar om naar Santiago de Compostella te brengen. We hebben gisteren nog geprobeerd om meer informatie over de bus regelingen te krijgen maar de busmaatschappijen waren niet te bereiken omdat het gisteren een feestdag was. Het was namelijk Maria Hemelvaart en alles was dicht. Aangezien ik op het internet had gelezen dat de bussen niet regelmatig reden en soms ook van de bus regelingen afweken, hebben we maar besloten om via de haven een taxi te regelen wat betaalbaar is. We rijden door een prachtig groen, boslandschap naar Santiago de Compostella. Er zijn geen snelwegen in dit deel van Galicië en we rijden door vele kleine dorpjes. Onderweg zien  typische huizen of schuren waar vroeger de mais werd  opgeslagen en nu nationaal erfgoed zijn.  Na zo´n anderhalf uur worden we netjes in het centrum van Santiago de Compostella afgezet. Santiago de Compostella heeft een heel oud centrum wat autovrij is. Via de VVV krijgen we een kaart en lopen een route waar we langs alle bezienswaardigheden van de stad lopen. De stad heeft een bijzondere sfeer doordat er vele mensen met rugzakken rondlopen, die de pelgrimsroute naar Santiago de Compostella gelopen hebben. Op het plein voor de kathedraal  zitten en liggen vele mensen die blij zijn dat ze het einddoel gehaald hebben. Tijdens de hele wandeling genieten we van de mooie stad en elk straatje is weer uniek. Zelfs de jongens zijn onder de indruk en noemen het de ´kerkenstad´ want in elke straat staat wel een kerk. Aan het einde van de middag gaan we nog even winkelen want we hebben de jongens shirts beloofd van Barcelona en Madrid. Na een paar winkels vinden we ´betaalbare´ shirts en heeft Luuk er één van Messi en Sjoerd van Ronaldo, al moeten ze dit shirt  van de muur afhalen want het is de laatste! Als we terugkomen in de haven waait het nog steeds enorm en zijn we blij dat we even een dag zonder wind hebben gehad!

Speelafspraak.

Donderdag wordt de wind al iets minder al staan de kopjes nog steeds op de golven in de baai. We moeten vandaag wat school inhalen want gisteren hebben we natuurlijk niets gedaan. Alhoewel de jongens waarschijnlijk ook veel geleerd hebben van het uitje naar Santiago de Compostella. Als wij aan school werken besteedt Raoul zijn tijd aan de klussenlijst: 2^e kaartenplotter is geïnstalleerd buiten in de kuip, radiozender is aangesloten, watermaker is aangesloten, satelliet telefoon is geactiveerd, skype is geactiveerd etc. Als we de radio aanzetten blijkt hij een error te geven. Blijkbaar zijn niet alle bedradingen meegekomen  toen we de radio kochten dus daar moeten nog extra kabels voor komen. ´s Middags komen de kinderen van twee andere boten spelen en de wii is erg populair. Gelukkig kunnen we ze ook nog overhalen om lekker buiten te gaan spelen!! ´s Avonds borrelen we met een Nederlands stel dat met een klein dochtertje rondzeilt. Zij en Raoul blijken op dezelfde middelbare school gezeten te hebben in Spijkenisse. Wat is de wereld toch klein.  Langzamerhand begint de wind nu toch echt wat af te nemen en als we na het eten op de weersvoorspellingen kijken ziet het er naar uit dat we morgen kunnen varen. Het zou 10 tot 15 knopen gaan waaien maar helaas moeten we daar wel tegen in. Het is in ieder geval een mooi doel om Kaap Finisterre te ronden en daarna moeten we alleen nog maar zuidwaarts! Op naar de rias bajas (lagere rias)!

Camariñas

Little beach at the coast.

The weather is still bad on Wednesday morning. It is raining, grey and it is still blowing really hard. It is also raining inside because there is still water coming inside through the mast. Raoul tried everything to fix it and taped the mast but it didn´t work yet. The other Dutch boats which were outside at the anchor are all coming into the harbour. Most of them didn´t sleep well and one of them measured 60 knots of wind during the night. In the morning the kids work on their school tasks and in the afternoon we walk along the coast of Camariñas. It is a beautiful walk along a rugged coast with little beaches. Outside at sea we see the white horses on the water and the waves are breaking at the coast!

The next day the taxi is waiting at 10 o´clock to bring us to Santiago de Compostella. Yesterday I tried to get some information about public buses but because of the public holiday I couldn´t reach one of them. The bus services seems to be not so trustworthy so we didn´t want to take the risk to get stuck somewhere and the taxi is not that expensive. We are driving through a green and hilly landscape to Santiago de Compostella. There are no highways in this area so we are passing a lot of little villages. We see a lot of typical barns where they used to keep the corn in the past.  After one and a half hour drive we are dropped at the city centre. Santiago de Compostella has a very beautiful, picturesque city centre. The tourist office has set out a beautiful walking route which takes us along all the beautiful  sightseeings of Santiago de Compostella. The city is free of cars and very clean. There is a special atmosphere in the city because of  the people with their backpacks,  who walked the famous Santiago de Compostella pilgrimage route which ends in front of the cathedral. Everybody is happy to have finished the walking and they are euphoric. Most of them are sitting and laying down on the square but others are singing and dancing. The boys are also impressed by the city and they call the city, ´the city of churches´, because it looks like that every street has  its own church. At the end of the afternoon we are going shopping because we have promised to buy the boys a Barcelona and Real Madrid football shirts. After a couple of shops we have found an affordable shirt of Mesi and Reinaldo. When we arrive back at the harbour it is still blowing hard and we are happy that we had a day without wind!

The wind is finally calming down a bit on Thursday. We have to make up for school because we didn´t do anything yesterday! Raoul is working away on all the jobs on board again: installing a second chart plotter outside, connection the radio, connection the water maker, activate the satellite telephone, activate skype etc. In the afternoon the kids have a play date with kids of the other boat and the wii is very popular! After dinner the wind is really calming down and we are looking at the weather forecasts and it should be ok to leave tomorrow. The wind will be 10-15 knots but again we have to beat against the wind. We would like to round Cape Finisterre tomorrow and from there we only need to sail southwards! So tomorrow we are off to the rias bajas (lower rias)!
